Psalm 72:18 — “Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.”

The Psalmist declares something remarkable about God: He only does wondrous things. Every work of God carries the mark of His greatness. The word “wondrous” means marvelous, extraordinary, surpassing, and beyond human ability. It speaks of things that only God can do.

Throughout Scripture, we see this truth repeated. In Jeremiah 33:3, God says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Mary testified to the same truth in Luke 1:49 when she said, “He that is mighty hath done to me great things.”

God’s nature is such that everything He does reflects His greatness. He does not work in ordinary ways. His plans are higher, His power is greater, and His wisdom is deeper than anything we could imagine.

Often, however, we fail to see the wonder because we are looking at life from the wrong side. Dr. Handley Moule once compared life to the back side of an embroidered bookmark. When you look at the back, all you see is tangled thread and confusion. But when you turn it over, you see a beautiful message carefully woven together.

Sometimes life feels like the tangled side. Circumstances may confuse us, disappoint us, or even wound us. Yet God is still weaving something beautiful.

One day, we will see the finished work and understand that every thread had a purpose.

When we begin to recognize the wonder of God’s works, something happens in our hearts. Wonder gives birth to worship. When we truly see who God is and what He does, we cannot help but respond with praise.

Take time today to reflect on the wondrous things God has done in your life. The more you see His wonder, the more naturally worship will flow.
