We live in a world filled with constant noise. Notifications buzz, screens demand our attention, and our schedules stay packed. We are always doing something, always consuming something. In that kind of environment, rest becomes rare, and our hearts can slowly drift into a state of urgency. When life is always moving, anxiety often follows close behind.
Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God…”
To “be still” is more than just sitting quietly. It is a deliberate act of surrender. It means setting aside the distractions, silencing the inner pressure of “what’s next,” and recognizing that God is in control. Stillness is where we release our grip on everything we are trying to manage and remember that we were never meant to carry it all.
When we pause, we create room for truth to settle in our hearts. God is not rushing. He is not overwhelmed. He is steady, present, and completely in control. In His presence, our anxious thoughts begin to quiet, and our perspective shifts.
This week, take time to be still. It does not have to be long, just a few intentional minutes in the morning or before bed. Step away from the noise. Open God’s Word. Let your mind rest in Him.
Today, identify one digital distraction you can set aside for thirty minutes. Use that time to meditate on Scripture and allow your soul to slow down.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do…is simply be still.
