John 11:35 – “Jesus wept.”

In just two words, the shortest verse in the Bible reveals one of the deepest truths about our Savior: Jesus wept. These tears were not shed in ignorance or hopelessness, but in compassion. Though Jesus knew He would raise Lazarus from the dead, He still entered fully into the grief of Mary, Martha, and the mourners around them. His heart was moved by their sorrow, their confusion, and their pain.

This moment shows us that Jesus is not a distant Savior. He is intimately acquainted with our grief. As Hebrews 4:15 declares, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Christ feels our struggles. He is not untouched by our pain. He joins us in it.

When we walk through loss, disappointment, or unanswered prayers, we can remember that Jesus is not cold to our circumstances. He draws near. His tears in John 11 remind us that our sorrow is not overlooked. “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

Let the weeping Christ comfort your soul today. He sees your pain, He understands your grief, and He walks with you in it, not just as God, but as one who has felt it all.
