We have probably all heard the story of Noah and the Ark. I recently had someone ask me why God destroyed all the people on earth besides Noah and his family. Why, if God is such a loving God, would He do a thing like this?

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God;  and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. (1 John 4:7-8)

Has someone you love ever been about to mess up? And you, out of love, warned them not to do it? If they choose to go against your warning, and make a wrong choice, did you mess up their life? No! You warned them, but they made their own decision.

God warned the people of Noah's day, for 120 years, that judgment was coming, BUT they chose not to listen. It wasn’t that God destroyed, or killed, everyone besides Noah's family. The fact is they chose to go against God’s loving warning, they chose not to get on the ark, and therefore they chose a path that led to death.

So often we blame God for bad or negative events in our lives or in the world, when really those bad experiences are a result of poor choices we’ve made against God’s loving warning.

May we remember that God is love, and His warnings come from a place of perfect love and desire for our good and His glory.
