Strength for the Call
Joshua 1:5–6

When we come to Joshua chapter one, we find Israel at a moment of transition. Moses, the great leader who had guided God’s people for years, had died. Leadership now rested on Joshua’s shoulders. Joshua had served faithfully as Moses’ minister and had witnessed God perform mighty works; yet, no doubt, he felt the weight of responsibility, pressure, and uncertainty that came with leading an entire nation.

It is in this moment that God speaks directly to Joshua with words of assurance: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee… Be strong and of a good courage.” God wasn’t minimizing the challenge; He was magnifying His presence. In essence, God was saying, “Joshua, the same God who helped Moses will help you.”

The Bible tells us that God is no respecter of persons. That truth carries powerful meaning for those who serve today. What God did for Moses, Joshua, David, Daniel, and the apostles, He is still willing and able to do for those who faithfully serve Him now.

Those who serve and carry responsibility understand the pressure of making difficult decisions, bearing the weight for others, and stepping into situations that many would avoid. There are moments of uncertainty, stress, and even fear. But Joshua, chapter 1, reminds us that God does not call us to face these challenges alone. His presence goes with us through every season, every change in life, every responsibility we carry, and every storm we encounter.

God’s promise to Joshua is also His promise to us: He will not fail us or forsake us. When the weight feels heavy and the path ahead unclear, we can stand strong, knowing the same God who guided leaders in Scripture is walking beside us today.

What an assurance to know that wherever duty calls, God’s presence goes with us.
