“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Romans 5:12

I want to look at three simple things today…

Man’s Choice

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world,”

In Genesis chapter 3, Adam and Eve chose to do what God had told them not to do. One of the problems in society today is that no one wants to accept personal responsibility for their actions. We have, what I call, Eve syndrome…Eve blamed what she had done on Satan. We are always looking for an opportunity to “pass the buck.” Sin is a choice. Anytime we sin, it’s because we chose to do that. We can just as easily choose not to.

Man’s Consequences

“and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned.”

We must remember that every choice has a consequence. Every person that has ever lived, or ever will live, is a sinner. That is just a plain Bible fact. And the consequence of our sin is death. We may think this is a harsh judgment by God, but man chose to sin, and God chose the punishment.

The Master’s Compassion

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8

Man did choose to sin, and because of that the consequence was death. However God, in his compassion, was willing to send His son to earth to die for our sin. Jesus lived a perfect life without sin, and therefore did not deserve to die. But because we are sinners who deserve to die, and because God loves us so much, Jesus took our place on Calvary. Jesus paid our sin debt.

Now you and I have another choice to make. Will we accept God's son as our Saviour and escape the penalty of sin, or will we reject Him?

May we remember that every choice has a consequence.
